For Parents
The Yorktown wrestling program is one of the best high school wrestling platforms in Northern Virginia. The coaches are exemplary and bring lifetimes of experience to the kids. The program emphasizes the core pillars important to the sport – perseverance, character and inner strength. The emphasis is not on win at all cost but on “win with pride” and teamwork.
How to Support the Team as a Parent
We believe that positive parent involvement is critical to the success of the team. Some of the ways that parents can show support to the wrestlers include:
- Be there and be supportive. We encourage parents to attend as many matches as possible to show your support for the team.
- Volunteer your time. We need parents to help with a variety of tasks, including giving rides, organizing carpools, providing snacks at meets and assisting with clinics and fundraising. The coaches will share opportunities throughout the year and we encourage all parents to jump in and get involved. Send us a message if you would like to volunteer.
- Make a financial contribution if you are able. The school provides equipment and match uniforms but the needs for a successful program extend beyond that support. Click here to make a 501(c)3 tax-deductible donation.
- Engage with us on social media. We have profiles on both Facebook and Instagram and post updates regularly throughout the year.
Parent Resources
Team Handbook
We ask all parents to read the team handbook. It contains important guidance for the wrestlers on topics such as practices, competitions and attendance policies; weigh ins; wrestle offs; and health, nutrition and the team medical policy.
Wrestling 101
We encourage parents to learn about the basics of wrestling so that they can understand what is happening during matches. Please ask the coaches any questions you may have.
Team Schedule
Our team schedule is maintained on this website. Please view the calendar for up-to-date info about practices, competitions and holidays. We will also provide notices about weather cancellations both on the calendar and on social media.
Medical Policy
The health and safety of the wrestlers is our number one concern. If someone becomes injured, we have established a Team Medical Care Policy designed to evaluate and treat the wrestler as quickly as possible.
Forms to Return
>>Physical Form
Per Yorktown’s policy all parents are expected to arrange for a physical to be conducted for their child before the start of the season. No wrestler can participate until the physical is submitted.
(Formulario de Participación Atlética/Permiso Paternal/Examen Físico)
>>Emergency Contact Form
Please complete this form and return to the head coach before the beginning of the season.
>>School-Issued Equipment Agreement
Before receiving school-issued equipment, parents need to sign and return this form. The equipment needs to be returned to the coaches at the conclusion of the season. If a wrestler does not return the equipment they will be charged to replace it.
>>Skin Care Form
If a wrestler has a skin disease that requires a doctor’s visit they are required to have the official VHSL skin form filled out in order to compete. A traditional doctor’s note will not allow the wrestler to compete.
